Hutson’s Legacy

Don Hutson tried to retire three times prior to his 1945 official retirement, but the infamous Lambeau charm (or paychecks) kept Hutson coming back.  Hutson once said, “I got the feeling they wanted me to play forever.” 1 With stats as good as Hutson’s, of which many are still unbroken, it is easy to see why Hutson is and will always be the on of the best receivers in the NFL.  He still leads the NFL in six plus records in receiving and many more. 2 For example Hutson leads the NFL in most consecutive seasons with the top pass receptions and most seasons while leading the league in touchdowns. 3 Hutson has managed to hold onto these titles for over 70 years! These two records alone show how important Don Hutson was in creating the wide receiver position and reimagining the NFL’s future and the forward pass.
